Who is this?

My name is Aaron Mayorga. I’m 23, and I’m a freelance photojournalist and writer.

I’ve largely worked in the service of community spot-news journalism, reporting on, and delivering the news to, the communities of the northwest Bronx, in New York.

My work has appeared in HuffPost, City Limits, and Voices of New York, Norwood News and The Riverdale Press—on matters including homelessness, gentrification, urban development and culture. Before all of that, I wrote about competitive Halo for, what’s now known as, Dot Esports and for another site which shall remain unnamed.

Terminally Chill is a continuation of my nameless postings on Medium, which amounted to being a very infrequent blog. (For example, I once argued that right-winger Mike Cernovich’s attempts to get Sam Seder fired from MSNBC was an example of the Streisand effect.)

Via this Substack, among many other things, I’ll be writing with greater frequency about the upcoming election (as well as politics broadly), the media, subcultures, baseball and American soccer, and of course, the only game that matters: Halo.

I’ll also be using this as a type of proving ground to test out different types of media formats, so there might be a few audio and video articles along the way. That also means that I’m the one behind the photo illustrations too; let me know if they’re any good.

P.S.: If you’re wondering, the name comes from a song off Neon Indian’s first album.
